In Tobata High School’s English Immersion program, various school subjects are occasionally taught in English instead of Japanese. Our English Immersion teacher (ALTS) works with the other teachers at Tobata to create lessons which complement the existing curriculum, and build on what students have previously studied. These lessons enrich student understanding of the topic, and give them the opportunity to use English outside of the context of “Language Learning.” Using English as a tool, students express their opinions, ask questions, and learn new ideas.
This year’s Immersion lessons include Home Economics, Japanese, Physics, Society, History, Biology, Mathematics, and Physical Education.

戸畑高校のイングリッシュ・イマージョン・プログラムでは、様々な教科を日本語ではなく英語で学びます。ALTS(イングリッシュ・イマージョンの教師)は、専門科目の教師と協力し、既存のカリキュラムを補完し、生徒が以前に学習した内容を基礎とした授業を全て英語で行います。これらのレッスンは、生徒のトピックに対する理解を深め、「言語学習」の枠を超えて英語を使う機会を与えます。英語をツールとして、生徒たちは自分の意見を述べたり、質問をしたり、新しいアイデアを学んだりします。
今年のイマージョン・レッスンでは、家庭科、国語、物理、公共、歴史、生物、数学、体育を行います。
